Is Grant Gustin fated to return as The Flash? The Arrowverse actor has revealed if he’d return as the Scarlet Speedster in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s upcoming DC Universe reboot.
James Gunn has taken an interesting tactic when it comes to recasting heroes for the new DC Universe. While many believed he would be going scorched earth, plenty of actors such as Viola Davis (Amanda Waller) and John Cena (Peacemaker) will be returning to their iconic DC roles. This left fans to question who else could return in the reboot. When asked if he’d be interested in reprising his role as The Flash if asked, Grant Gustin simply said “Yes, I trust James Gunn.”
While it’s not likely James Gunn would have him play the Scarlet Speedster himself, it’s almost a tradition for previous The Flash actors to be cast in new incarnations of the hero. Most notably, John Wesley Shipp played the father of Grant Gustin’s Barry Allen in the CW series. So while he may not reappear wearing red spandex, here’s to hoping the actor finds a home in the DC Universe reboot.
The future of the DC Universe
James Gunn and Peter Safran told journalists that their vision for the DC Universe includes locked scripts, wiggle room, and a unified storyline across film, television, animation, and video game projects. The two explained that the DC Universe could bring back elements from previous DC regimes, meaning that their eight-to-year plan is not a full reboot.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods, The Flash, Blue Beetle, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom have all been released following the announcement of the new DC Universe, all four projects struggling at the box office. Will the characters from those movies make appearances in the new DCU? Only Gunn and Safran know.
