Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set to be the last ride of everyone’s favorite band of misfits. A new behind-the-scenes photo from writer-director James Gunn shows off the final moments on set with the original Guardians, possibly for the last time ever.
It’s no secret that James Gunn plans for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 to be the end of his involvement with the series. Even aside from his new job as co-chair of DC Studios with Peter Safran, Gunn has previously emphasized the importance of this film being the end of his Guardians trilogy. The finality of the characters, and for many of the actors’ time in the MCU, ratchets up the emotion of this film to 11. To honor this legacy, Gunn has released a brand new behind-the-scenes image of the team’s last moments on set, which can be seen in full below:
It’s unclear what the future holds for the team after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. With James Gunn moving to DC Studios and actors like Dave Bautista and Zoe Saldana confirming they won’t be returning for any future Marvel projects, it may be time for a new team of heroes to rise. As long as there are people to save and money to make, the Guardians of the Galaxy will never truly die.
What to expect from the third Guadians movie
Written and directed by James Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, Sean Gunn, Sylvester Stallone, Will Poulter, Chukwudi Iwuji and Maria Bakalova.
The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 synopsis reads as follows: “Our beloved band of misfits are settling into life on Knowhere, but it isn’t long before their lives are upended by the echoes of Rocket’s turbulent past. Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team around him on a dangerous mission to save Rocket’s life – a mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them.”
