‘Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3’ Star Chris Pratt Open To Return As Star-Lord

Is Star-Lord here to stay?

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is meant to be the last ride of the team as we know it. However, Chris Pratt admits that he’d be open to return as Star-Lord as long as it honored what James Gunn did.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be the final film James Gunn does for Marvel before moving on as co-chair of DC Studios with Peter Safran. The finality of the film has been emphasized on numerous occasions, with Gunn stating that the project is a fitting conclusion that wraps everything up in a satisfying way. However, it may not be the end for every Guardian. Chris Pratt recently said that he’d be open to return as Star-Lord in a future Marvel film. The only caveat is that whatever he did would have to honor what Gunn did with his trilogy:

“It would be strange to continue Peter’s story without James,” Pratt told Gamesradar. “He’s done such a masterful job in the first three films. We really found the voice of Peter Quill together and without him, obviously, I would never have had this opportunity. He writes it, he directs it, he dreams up the music, it’s his imagination on screen. So, to continue to tell the story, it would really be important to honor what he’s done in the first three films and to honor what the fans have grown to love about the character and not simply do it because people might show up to pay for it, you know?”

Chris Pratt also adds that he doesn’t just want to return to the role of Star-Lord for the sake of returning. Even if the film honors what James Gunn did with his trilogy, Pratt would only reprise the role it if he felt his heart was still in the character:

“I don’t want to be cynical in the approach and if that’s the case, I just wouldn’t do it at all,” He continued “So maybe down the road if something makes sense I would do it but it would really have to check a lot of the right boxes.”

Chris Pratt stands relatively alone in his openness to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His c-stars Zoe Saldana and Dave Bautista have both confirmed that they won’t be returning to their respective roles as Gamora and Drax, as the two want to focus on other projects after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. This leaves the future of the Guardians in the MCU up in the air once James Gunn returns to DC. However, fans can rest assured that they have one last ride to look forward to.

The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 synopsis reads as follows: “Our beloved band of misfits are settling into life on Knowhere, but it isn’t long before their lives are upended by the echoes of Rocket’s turbulent past. Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team around him on a dangerous mission to save Rocket’s life – a mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them.”
