Hawkeye director/executive producer Rhys Thomas has opened up about the possibilities for a second season of the Disney Plus show.

Earlier this week, Hawkeye‘s season finale premiered that saw several of the previous episode’s twists pay off. This included but was not limited to the return of Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilison Fisk, The Kingpin, and a big emotional showdown between Yelena Belova and Hawkeye. While the story of the season seemed to have been wrapped up nicely it did leave plenty of room open for some kind of continuation.

When it comes to the various Marvel Disney Plus shows, their status as an ongoing series never quite seems to be concrete. WandaVision was apparently a one-time thing and the story of Falcon and The Winter Soldier is expected to continue in Captain America 4. Loki, on the other hand, was renewed for a second season before the final episode even aired so the fate of Hawkeye could easily fall into either category.

In a recent interview with Collider, Hawkeye director and executive producer Rhys Thomas talked about the possibilities of the second season, noting that it all depended on how the show was received and would love the chance to do it all again:

I cannot speak to future plans in the tradition of secrecy. Again, the show coming out, you never know how it’s going to be received and it has been amazing to see how warmly people have taken it and enjoyed it. And it’s been great to see Hailee’s character embraced and sort of land so firmly in the MCU. I sincerely look forward to where that character goes next. And yes, I loved walking on the streets of the MCU and would gladly enjoy doing it again.

Here is the synopsis for Hawkeye:

Former Avenger Clint Barton has a seemingly simple mission: get back to his family for Christmas. Possible? Maybe with the help of Kate Bishop, a 22-year-old archer with dreams of becoming a Super Hero. The two are forced to work together when a presence from Barton’s past threatens to derail far more than the festive spirit.

Hawkeye stars Jeremy Renner, Hailee Steinfeld, Tony Dalton, Fra Free, Brian d’Arcy James, Aleks Paunovic, Piotr Adamczyk, Linda Cardellini, Simon Callow, Vera Farmiga, and Alaqua Cox. Florence Pugh also returned in her Black Widow role.

The first season of Hawkeye is now available to stream on Disney Plus. Stay tuned for all the latest news surrounding the series and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
