Is Hawkeye officially dead? Producer Andrew Guest reveals why season 2 of the Disney Plus series ultimately never came to light.
Funnily, the rumor mill is mostly quiet when it comes to the goings on of Disney Plus projects. However, the one project that they seemed to clasp on to more than any other was Hawkeye season 2. For years, scoopers have been leaking “details” about a supposed second season of the series. Yet now years later, the show hasn’t even been confirmed to return.
Which left fans with the question: what happened to Hawkeye season 2? And as with any question, the rumor mill once more swooped in to provide answers. The most common reason presented as to why the series wasn’t brought back on Disney Plus was due to pay disputes between Jeremy Renner and Marvel Studios, a point of conflict that Renner himself confirmed last year.
Why Hawkeye Season 2 Never Happened
However, series producer Andrew Guest recently spoke about the real reason that Hawkeye never got a season 2, and the answer is simpler than the rumor mill might have fans believe. According to Guest, the primary reason that the show didn’t get a renewal on Disney Plus is simply because the timing didn’t work out with the broader MCU.
“There was talk at a certain point about,” Guest told The Direct in a recent interview. “We did explore creatively what Season 2 of Hawkeye might be if we were able to do it. Unfortunately, the timing didn’t work out in terms of Marvel and all the various pieces that need to come together, but I loved working on Hawkeye.”
Given how complicated the work flow is for any MCU project, especially one as big as a Disney Plus series, it certainly makes sense that any snag in the system could cause a complete breakdown. While it’s a shame that Hawkeye itself won’t be making a return for season 2 anytime soon, fans can at least rest assured that the series will live on in the hearts of fans.
