Is Hawkeye season 2 happening after all? A new rumor teases that the project may return to Disney Plus – just without Jeremy Renner as the star.
After literal years of silence, fans recently got their first bits of news about Hawkeye season 2…and it isn’t great. Jeremy Renner recently revealed that he was asked to return for another season of the beloved Disney Plus show. However, he ultimately turned it down because Disney offered him only half of his original salary to reprise his role as Clint Barton.
To many, this was all but confirmation that a season 2 of Hawkeye just wasn’t happening. Yet a return may be more in the cards than some fans might think. A rumor from scooper MyTimeToShineHello reveals that the series will still continue on Disney Plus without Jeremy Renner, with Hailee Steinfeld taking on the leading role as the titular bowman.
Will There Be A Hawkeye Season 2?
It may seem odd to have a Hawkeye show without Jeremy Renner making his return as Clint Barton. However, it was clear that the first season of the Disney Plus show angled Hailee Steinfeld as much of the lead as Renner himself. And with Renner’s tenure in the MCU stretching over a decade, it would only make sense to transition to a younger hero heading into season 2.
If this rumor is true, it also doesn’t mean Jeremy Renner won’t return at all for season 2. It’s possible that, if the focus is put solely on Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop, Disney would be open to giving him a better deal for a smaller role. Though how long it’ll be until fans find out what becomes of the Hawkeye series is up in the air, especially as the studio reevaluates its live-action television output.
