HBO Max executive Sarah Aubrey has offered a status update on the live-action Green Lantern series.

During a recent interview with Variety, HBO Max head of originals Sarah Aubrey was asked about the long-awaited, live-action Green Lantern series from Berlanti Productions. While she couldn’t say much about the project itself, Aubrey stated that the folks behind HBO Max are excited about working on it with producers Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter.

“We remain very excited by the opportunity to make a big four-quadrant space opera with Greg and Sarah for HBO Max,” Aubrey told Variety, confirming that the Green Lantern series is still in development at the streaming service.

Green Lantern is being revamped to feature John Stewart

The Green Lantern series was originally expected to revolve around Guy Gardner and Alan Scott but is now being retooled to focus on John Stewart. Seth Grahame-Smith left his post as writer and showrunner as part of the creative overhaul.

Finn Wittrock and Jeremy Irvine were set to star in Seth Grahame-Smith’s version of the Green Lantern series but the actors are no longer attached to the projects. For now, Green Lantern has a script-to-series commitment but not official production start date.

The Green Lantern news came a day after James Gunn and Peter Safran’s hiring as the new heads of DC’s film, television and animation efforts at Warner Bros. Discovery. Gunn and Safran were named co-chairs and co-CEOs of DC Studios, which has replaced the DC Films division at the studio. The duo started their jobs on November 1st.
