‘Hellboy’ Comic-Con Banner Promises Plenty Of Monsters & Mayhem

Hellboy David Harbour

Hellboy will be the focus of a New York Comic-Con panel this Saturday but while fans wait in anticipation for it, they can check out an incredible banner made for the convention, which features plenty of crazy monsters and chaos.

Fans of the Guillermo del Toro-directed Hellboy films have been waiting a long time for the third installment of del Toro’s planned trilogy. The first film hit theaters in 2004, with the follow-up The Golden Army hitting theaters in July of 2008. Although the film earned over $160 million worldwide, its box office gross paled in comparison to other superhero films released that same summer such as Iron Man and The Dark Knight. Sadly, a sequel never came to fruition.

The latest Hellboy film is a fresh take on the character. It will be hitting theaters next year and though fans have seen very little from the film so far, this Saturday it will be holding a panel at New York Comic-Com moderated by Entertainment Weekly’s Clark Collis. The panel will finally reveal more of the film and if you’re amped for the new take on the character and can’t wait until tomorrow’s panel, check out the NYCC banner below. The banner was revealed by Collis on Twitter and offers fans a look at some new characters and very strange monsters.

Some fans were disappointed to hear that instead of a third film, a reboot titled Hellboy will be coming to the big screen in 2019 directed by Neil Marshall and starring Stranger Things star David Harbour in the titular role. From the look at the few images released, the film looks to have del Toro-ish character designs, but while del Toro’s films were PG-13, the new film is aiming for an R-rating. Fans who have seen Neil Marshall’s films, such as Doomsday or The Descent, know that if anyone has the chops to bring an R-rated Hellboy film to the big screen, it’s him.

We’ll be sure to keep you updated on all news regarding Hellboy as more information becomes available. What are your thoughts on Del Toro’s adaptation of the character? Are you excited for a new R-rated take on the character? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

In addition to Harbour, Hellboy also stars Milla Jovovich, Ian McShane, Sasha Lane, Brian Gleeson, Daniel Dae Kim, and Sophie Okonedo.

Hellboy hits theaters on April 12th, 2019.
