Netflix’s The Witcher recently bid farewell to Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, leaving the door open for Liam Hemsworth to take up the mantle for season 4. However, according to an insider, his final moments were almost much different.
Henry Cavill’s final moments as Geralt of Rivia weren’t as bombastic as many fans may have hoped, with season 3 of The Witcher ending with Geralt, Jaskier and Milva riding off after defeating Nilfgaardian soldiers. However, according to the site Redanian Intelligence, the finale initially ended with Cahir watching them, potentially teasing the events leading to Liam Hemsworth’s debut in season 4.
It’s unclear exactly why this scene was scrapped, with some pointing to similarities to the end of Netflix’s failed The Witcher: Blood Origin. Regardless of the reason, neither ending likely would’ve appeased fans who mostly found Henry Cavill’s final season as Geralt of Rivia lackluster at best. It’s unclear how well the series will recover heading into season 4 with Liam Hemsworth, or if Netflix’s newest fantasy juggernaut will fall to the wayside.
The future of Netflix’s The Witcher series
The third season of The Witcher is currently scheduled to hit Netflix in Summer 2023. The series has already been renewed for a fourth season, with Henry Cavill being replaced by Australian actor Liam Hemsworth, best known for his work in the Hunger Games series and the Independence Day sequel.
The first two seasons of The Witcher are currently available to stream on Netlfix. Based on the series of books by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski and developed for television by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, The Witcher also stars Anya Chalotra, Freya Allan and Joey Batey.
