Hugh Jackman’s time as Wolverine may be far from over! A new Marvel rumor claims that the Australian actor has one condition to reprise his role as the X-Men hero in Avengers: Secret Wars.
If the current rumor landscape is to be believed, Avengers: Secret Wars is shaping up to be a true celebration of the Marvel multiverse built before the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, it seems not every actor is entirely committed to returning. According to scooper MyTimeToShineHello, Hugh Jackman will only reprise his role as Wolverine if he gets to interact with Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man and Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man.
It seems Hugh Jackman is really trying to make Marvel work for his return as Wolverine in Avengers: Secret Wars, as a different 2023 rumor said the star wanted a leading role in the project if he was to return. Given Jackman was the face of Marvel for years before the MCU, it’s certainly a reasonable ask. Let’s just hope Disney can get RDJ and Tobey Maguire on board!
The Future of the Avengers Franchise
Avengers 5 is the first movie in a two-part finale to Marvel’s Multiverse Saga. It will be followed by Avengers: Secret Wars, rounding out Marvel Studios’ Phase 6.
Destin Daniel Cretton recently made the decision to step down from his role as the director of the upcoming Avengers 5. However, Destin Daniel Cretton’s departure is not an exit from the Marvel family but rather a realignment of his directorial commitments as he’s focused on Wonder Woman and Shang-Chi 2.
Secret Wars is a crossover event that will bring together characters from all across the Marvel multiverse, so Iron Man’s experience and leadership will be invaluable to the Avengers. Michael Waldron is set to write the upcoming Marvel Studios film Avengers: Secret Wars, but a director has yet to be announced.
