Wolverine gets his classic suit!

Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine returns in a stunning concept design for the Ryan Reynolds starrer Deadpool 3.

In the 17 years he portrayed Wolverine for 20th Century Fox’s live-action X-Men movies, Hugh Jackman never actually got to wear the character’s classic yellow and blue costume from the comics. Arguments against using this suit were due to the fact that it would seem too goofy on screen, especially since Fox’ X-Men movies had a very distinct tone to be taken more seriously.

Regardless of the grounded approach to his look, critics and audiences welcomed Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, with the actor spending nearly two decades in the role. Even with that in mind, some fans are still wondering how the comic book version of his suit would’ve looked like on the silver screen, and Instagram user “Skull101ify” shared this remarkable concept design of Jackman wearing the suit for Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool 3. You can check out the design below.

Hugh Jackman is set to reprise his role as Wolverine for the yet-to-be titled third Deadpool movie opposite Ryan Reynolds. Shawn Levy is directing the feature from a screenplay by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the writers behind the first two Deadpool movies.

This concept of the classic suit gives Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine a more muted color scheme that would have worked well with what Fox’s X-Men franchise established with both the original 2000 cast era as well as the 2011 X-Men: First Class era that ended with the studio’s final X-Men movie Dark Phoenix.

Deadpool and Wolverine join the Marvel Cinematic Universe

The first two Deadpool movies were produced by 20th Century Fox before the studio’s acquisition by The Walt Disney Company. Deadpool 3 is being written as the first movie in the series set within the Marvle Cinematic Universe.

This piece of artwork can give artists at Marvel Studios some inspiration into bringing the iconic Wolverine suit to life on the big screen for the first time. And given the MCU’s track record, it will likely opt for a suit that is comic book-accurate and will perhaps have a brighter color scheme to further distinguish their take on the Mutants from the previous iteration.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has previously opened up about his excitement for Deadpool 3 and the opportunity to work with Ryan Reynolds. “[It’s] a very different type of character in the MCU, and Ryan is a force of nature… [it’s] just awesome to see him bring that character to life,” Feige said at the time.
