‘Harry Potter’ Author J.K. Rowling Tricked Into Fake Chat With Zelenskyy

J.K. Rowling is the latest celebrity to get tricked by these Russian pranksters.

Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling was tricked into a fake chat with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy from Russian pranksters.

Russian pranksters Vovan and Lexus have been pulling pranks on numerous celebrities that include the likes of Sir Elton John, Billie Eilish, Prince Harry, and Vice President Kamala Harris among others. Now, the latest celebrity to fall victim to their pranks is Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling. This time around, the author was tricked into a prank Zoom call with who she thought was supposed to be Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The Harry Potter author gets pranked.

In the video, in which J.K. Rowling was being prank called, the Russian pranksters spoke to her pretending to be Zelenskyy. The Harry Potter author was unaware that she was being recorded. She was asked by the pranksters about changing the series protagonist’s lightning bolt scar into a symbol that is more pro-Ukraine, because they claimed that it resembled the “Z” symbol on Russian military tanks. Rowling even responded to the pranksters’ with the following:

“I will look into that, might be good for me to do something with that myself on social media because I think that will get into the newspapers.”

A spokesperson released the following statement from the Harry Potter author to Variety in response to this prank:

“J.K. Rowling was approached to talk about her extensive charitable work in Ukraine, supporting children and families who have been affected by the current conflict in the region. The video, which has been edited, is a distorted representation of the conversation.”

Directed by David Yates from a screenplay written by J.K. Rowling and Steve Kloves, the film stars Eddie Redmayne, Jude Law, Ezra Miller, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Callum Turner, Jessica Williams, Katherine Waterston, and Mads Mikkelsen.
