James Gunn Addresses ‘Teen Titans’ & ‘Plastic Man’ Rumors For DC Universe

Are any true?

DC Universe Rumors Plastic Man Sgt. Rock Teen Titans James Gunn

A whole new wave of rumors has come out teasing everyone from Teen Titans to Plastic Man. Yet according to James Gunn, they’re not as true as some insiders would have you believe.

A recent spree of scoops from the moderators of the subreddit DCU Leaks claimed to have insider information on three DC Universe projects not yet announced. The biggest rumor was that a Teen Titans film is in early development. However, the more interesting ones included a film focused on the obscure character Sgt. Rock and a Plastic Man movie helmed by The Whale director Darren Aronofsky. According to James Gunn, at least one of these projects isn’t true.

While fans would certainly love to see the Teen Titans hit the big screen, it may be too early in the DC Universe for James Gunn to greenlight the project, especially with most of their mentors not even cast. Sgt. Rock also isn’t unlikely given the renewed love for that era of DC Comics. However, most likely out of all the rumors is the Plastic Man movie. While Darren Aronofsky may not be attached to direct, Gunn clearly has a soft spot for characters like Eel, and it wouldn’t be shocking to see him get a solo movie before a Terrifics team-up film.

The future of the DC Universe

James Gunn and Peter Safran told journalists that their vision for the DC Universe includes locked scripts, wiggle room, and a unified storyline across film, television, animation, and video game projects. The two explained that the DC Universe could bring back elements from previous DC regimes, meaning that their eight-to-year plan is not a full reboot.

Shazam! Fury of the GodsThe FlashBlue Beetle, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom have all been released following the announcement of the new DC Universe, all four projects struggling at the box office. Will the characters from those movies make appearances in the new DCU? Only Gunn and Safran know.

Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the DC Universe after Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom!
