It seems as though James Gunn isn’t done casting his DC Universe quite yet! A recent social media post from the director seemed to tease a key Justice League member’s debut.
Even with only a single DC Universe film entering production, it seems the Justice League is already starting to take shape. Nearly a dozen heroes are already confirmed to appear in Superman: Legacy, but it seems James Gunn isn’t done quite yet. A recent social media spree focused on a key DC comics character, Captain Atom, potentially teasing his upcoming casting.
While Captain America is far from the biggest name in DC Comics, the character has been a mainstay in the Justice League and its adaptations for over 80 years. While James Gunn could simply be celebrating a fan-favorite hero, it’s equally possible he’s teasing a potential reveal for his DC Universe. Though only time will tell if the iconic hero will finally make his big screen debut!
The future of the DC Universe
James Gunn and Peter Safran told journalists that their vision for the DC Universe includes locked scripts, wiggle room, and a unified storyline across film, television, animation, and video game projects. The two explained that the DC Universe could bring back elements from previous DC regimes, meaning that their eight-to-year plan is not a full reboot.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods, The Flash, Blue Beetle, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom have all been released following the announcement of the new DC Universe, all four projects struggling at the box office. Will the characters from those movies make appearances in the new DCU? Only Gunn and Safran know.
