James Gunn’s ‘Batman’ Movie ‘The Brave and The Bold’ Gets Disappointing Update

Is it for the best?

Andy Muschietti is set to helm the long-awaited Batman: The Brave and The Bold reboot. The project now seems on hold at DC Studios as the director focuses on other projects following the SAG-AFTRA strike.

The SAG-AFTRA strike has caused timetables for companies, both internally and externally, to clash. The most notable victim of this is Batman: The Brave and The Bold at DC Studios. While still in its early stages, the film’s director, Andy Muschietti, is putting his focus into the It prequel series for Max: Welcome To Derry. This likely leaves the Batman movie at a standstill until production wraps on that and a script is completed.

Potential delays for Batman: The Brave and The Bold may be for the best. DC Studios already has a Caped Crusader film series with The Batman. The longer the reboot takes to come out, the longer Andy Muschietti has to make sure it’s something truly innovative for the character and doesn’t tread on worn ground.

The future of the DC Universe

James Gunn and Peter Safran told journalists that their vision for the DC Universe includes locked scripts, wiggle room, and a unified storyline across film, television, animation, and video game projects. The two explained that the DC Universe could bring back elements from previous DC regimes, meaning that their eight-to-year plan is not a full reboot.

Shazam! Fury of the GodsThe Flash, and Blue Beetle have all been released following the announcement of the new DC Universe, with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom still slated to hit theaters in 2023. Will the characters from those movies make appearances in the new DCU? Only Gunn and Safran know.
