This past weekend, a rumor began to make the rounds claiming that John Krasinski, best known for his role as Jim on The Office, is in the running to play Bruce Wayne in Batman: The Brave And The Bold for the new DC Universe. However, according to DC Studios co-chair James Gunn, they’re a long way away from cementing casting.
With David Corenswet officially being cast as Superman in the new DC Universe, DC fans have been eagerly awaiting any news about who would be playing the Caped Crusader. Rumors have ranged from The Boys star Jensen Ackles to Finn Wittrock, who was originally set to play Guy Gardner. The newest rumor suggests DC Studios is eyeing The Office and Jack Ryan star John Krasinski for the role. When asked if this was true, James Gunn revealed that DC Studios is a long way from casting given Batman: The Brave And The Bold doesn’t even have a script yet:
Casting a role without a script isn’t a concept foreign to Hollywood, though Blade‘s ongoing production troubles suggest it’s not the best idea. However, James Gunn’s hesitance to cast without one further highlights his stated commitment to storytellers at DC Studios with the new DC Universe. It also means that John Krasinski still has a chance for the role once casting does officially begin.
The future of the DC Universe
James Gunn and Peter Safran told journalists that their vision for the DC Universe includes locked scripts, wiggle room, and a unified storyline across film, television, animation, and video game projects. The two explained that the DC Universe could bring back elements from previous DC regimes, meaning that their eight-to-year plan is not a full reboot.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods, The Flash, and Blue Beetle have all been released following the announcement of the new DC Universe, with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom still slated to hit theaters in 2023. Will the characters from those movies make appearances in the new DCU? Only Gunn and Safran know.
