The DC Universe will kneel before Deathstroke! James Gunn confirms plans for the iconic mercenary to appear in future projects.
It’s not an exaggeration to say that Deathstroke is one of the most popular villains in the DC Universe. He played an iconic role in the Teen Titans animated series, and has since made his way into animated films, video games, and even anime! However, the one thing that has alluded the character has been a proper appearance on the silver screen, with James Gunn’s takeover of DC Studios killing any plans for Joe Manganiello’s take on the character.
Luckily, James Gunn seems set to rectify one of the DC Universe’s original sins. When he was asked about potential plans for Deathstroke on Threads, Gunn confirmed that he does have ideas regarding how to use the villain in future projects, and that plans are in place for him to finally make his debut in a feature film (at least, beyond that of a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo).
Deathstroke’s Role In The DC Universe
James Gunn’s confirmation lines up with previous reports that a film led by Deathstroke and Bane is being developed for the DC Universe. It’s unclear if the mercenary will appear in a project prior to that above. However, given Gunn almost used the character as the leading hero in The Suicide Squad, it’s entirely possible that he was a trick up his sleeve in an upcoming project.
There’s no word on who could play Deathstroke in the DC Universe. James Gunn has made it clear that only a few actors will continue their roles in the upcoming reboot, meaning it’s not likely that Joe Manganiello will reprise his role for a proper shot at the big screen. More likely than not, a search for the actor won’t begin until a project involving the villain as been properly greenlit.
