Daniela Melchior was one of the break-out stars of James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. The actress recently commented on the possibility of Ratcatcher returning in the new DC Universe reboot by James Gunn and Peter Safran.
While almost every big role is being recast for the new DC Universe, it seems the only characters to survive the reboot starred in Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. This has left many fans wondering which other characters Gunn might bring back, such as Daniela Melchior’s Ratcatcher or Idris Elba’s Bloodsport. When asked if she would return as the anti-heroine, Melchior admitted that she’s “not aware” of any plans.
While it’s a shame there are currently no plans for Daniela Melchior to return as Ratcatcher, that doesn’t mean she’s gone for good. The reboot is still in its earliest stages, and with Gunn confirming he has no plans to make a sequel to The Suicide Squad, there’s likely no clear place for her to return. If the right project comes along, it’s entirely possible fans will see her again in the new DC Universe!
The future of the DC Universe
James Gunn and Peter Safran told journalists that their vision for the DC Universe includes locked scripts, wiggle room, and a unified storyline across film, television, animation, and video game projects. The two explained that the DC Universe could bring back elements from previous DC regimes, meaning that their eight-to-year plan is not a full reboot.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods, The Flash, Blue Beetle, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom have all been released following the announcement of the new DC Universe, all four projects struggling at the box office. Will the characters from those movies make appearances in the new DCU? Only Gunn and Safran know.
