Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 saw the end of everyone’s favorite band of misfits as they knew them. However, it seems as though not every Guardian’s journey is over, with director James Gunn confirming talks of a Star-Lord spin-off starring Chris Pratt.
The role of Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy rocketed Chris Pratt’s career as one of the biggest stars in Hollywood, beloved by audiences (even if he seems a bit oversaturated to some these days). This left many fans sad that Pratt’s time at the Marvel Cinematic Universe seems to have come to a close. However, according to director James Gunn, the journey isn’t over yet:
“Oh, but not quite over. We always want to give somebody a little something special,” Gunn explained in the commentary of the film’s digital release. “And Chris and I, forever, have talked about how great it would be to be able to do a ‘Legendary Star-Lord’ movie, a story with Star-Lord on Earth trying to adapt to the environment of Earth in the same way that somebody else might try to adapt to the alien environment of outer space. He’s a fish out of water in just kind of regular water. So I can’t wait to see it.”
It’s unclear if this Legendary Star-Lord project will ever come to pass. With James Gunn over at DC Studios, it seems as though the MCU and Kevin Feige would need to find a new director to helm the project, likely one that both Chris Pratt and James Gunn trust with the character. Only time will tell if this will actually come to pass, or the most fans will see of Star-Lord is an Avengers cameo.
What to expect from the third Guardians movie
Written and directed by James Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, Sean Gunn, Sylvester Stallone, Will Poulter, Chukwudi Iwuji and Maria Bakalova.
The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 synopsis reads as follows: “Our beloved band of misfits are settling into life on Knowhere, but it isn’t long before their lives are upended by the echoes of Rocket’s turbulent past. Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team around him on a dangerous mission to save Rocket’s life – a mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them.”
