James Gunn has debunked a Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 that focuses on Gamora and Mantis.
The Guardians of the Galaxy, though largely reunited at the end of Avengers: Endgame, are missing one core member: Gamora. Seeing as the Gamora in the film is actually the one from the past that has little to no knowledge of her exploits with the cosmic team or her relationship with Peter Quill, it’s hard to tell how the character will come into play when the time comes for the team’s third outing. It’s not hard to imagine that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will at least slightly focus on Gamora regaining her memories, which has many fans thinking that Mantis will be the one who helps Thanos’ daughter recollect herself. While the theory may sound cool, James Gunn dunked it over the weekend during a watch party hosted by ComicBook.com.
The theory is simple: Mantis’ powers could work in reverse, which means that she can transmit Quill’s memories to Gamora. It’s certainly an exciting, albeit convenient theory but director James Gunn shot it down by confirming that Mantis can only transfer emotions, not memories.
Starting early? We SEE them work in reverse when she fills Gamora with fear. But memories are thoughts, not emotions. She cannot read or send thoughts, only emotions. #QuarantineWatchParty #gotgvok2 ok no more questions until this evening!

If Mantis could transmit memories, such as the ones Quill had with Gamora, it certainly would make for a quick recollection. Now that James Gunn has confirmed that this isn’t possible, we’re still pretty uncertain how Gamora will play into the third Guardians of the Galaxy film. Details on the third film in the franchise are quite slim, though we do know that Kraglin will have a larger role in the project.

While production on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was scheduled to begin early this year, the project was put on hold following Disney’s decision to remove James Gunn as the director of the final chapter in the trilogy. Now, Gunn will begin production on the third Guardians of the Galaxy film after completing work on The Suicide Squad for Warner Bros. and DC, which he is currently editing from the safety from his home due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Details on the third chapter of Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy are currently unknown, though the film will likely explore the ramifications of the universe-changing events in Avengers: Endgame.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is expected to star Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, and Sean Gunn.
