James Gunn Shuts Down Rumor Of Bane Appearing In ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2

Another rumor bites the dust.

Peacemaker John Cena James Gunn Bane The Suicide Squad

James Gunn shut down a rumor that Bane will appear as an antagonist in Peacemaker Season 2.

Last week, HBO Max announced that a second season of Peacemaker was officially given the green light. The series, created by James Gunn is set in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) and is a spin-off sequel to The Suicide Squad featuring John Cena as the titular character. The first season received much acclaim from critics and fans alike, and excitement for a second season is certainly quite high, particularly in regards to what other DC characters may appear. A recent rumor surfaced that the Batman villain Bane would be appearing as an antagonist.

However, James Gunn was quick to deny such a rumor. On his official Twitter, the series creator shut the rumor down, so fans shouldn’t expect to see Bane face off against Christopher Smith in Season 2 – at least for now:

Rumors regarding an appearance from Bane in the DCEU have been common on the internet. The last time Bane appeared in a DC Comics film was in 2012, when Academy Award-nominee Tom Hardy portrayed the villain and broke Batman’s back in The Dark Knight Rises. It remains to be seen whether or not Bane will appear in a future film, whether or not it’s in the current DCEU or perhaps in Matt Reeves’ The Batman trilogy.

A common fan-casting for Bane is Dave Bautista. Given that the former wrestler has worked with James Gunn on the Guardians of the Galaxy films, it would be interesting to see him join Peacemaker as Bane, but only time will tell. Either way, it will be exciting to see Bane inevitably appear in anything.

Here is the synopsis for James Gunn’s Peacemaker:

PEACEMAKER explores the continuing story of the character that John Cena reprises in the aftermath of executive producer James Gunn’s 2021 film The Suicide Squad – a compellingly vainglorious man who believes in peace at any cost, no matter how many people he has to kill to get it!

The series was created by James Gunn, who wrote all the episodes and directed five of them. The first season of the HBO Max series will consist of eight episodes, with Brad Anderson, Jody Hill, and Rosemary Rodriguez also directing episodes. Clint Mansell and Kevin Kiner also composed the DCEU show’s score.

The HBO Max DCEU series stars John Cena, Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, Chukwudi Iwuji, Jennifer Holland, Steve Agee, and Robert Patrick.

Peacemaker is available on HBO Max. Stay tuned for all the latest news surrounding James Gunn’s series, as well as upcoming projects featuring Bane, and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
