Superman: Legacy is set to be the official start of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DC Universe. It’s finally been revealed where Creature Commandos lands in relation to other DC Studios projects.
Creature Commandos is certainly not a project people would’ve expected at the start of a new DC universe. With the show having started production before James Gunn and Peter Safran took over DC Studios and Superman: Legacy confirmed as the start of the new slate, fans have been left wondering where the show fits into things. According to Gunn, the series takes place before Superman: Legacy, with no other projects being charted so far:
James Gunn when asked whether the DCU will have a publicly-accessible chronology: ‘Creature Commandos’ precedes ‘Superman: Legacy’ and that “nothing else is finished or being written yet (and won’t be until after the strike!)”

It’s certainly understandable that at least most projects in the new DC Universe would take place in chronological order. However, it could have been speculated that the Creature Commandos would have formed in response to Superman: Legacy, similar to the events of 2016’s Suicide Squad. Regardless of where the projects fall, fans should rest assured that James Gunn and Peter Safran seem to have a pretty firm grip on DC Studios’ continuity.
