James Gunn Explains Why Star-Lord Didn’t Stay On Earth After ‘Avengers: Endgame’

James Gunn Star-Lord Avengers Endgame

James Gunn opened up on why Star-Lord doesn’t stay on Earth following the final battle of Avengers: Endgame.

Since Star-Lord was abducted from Earth by Michael Rooker’s Yondu at such a young age, many wondered if he’d ever return to see the remaining family that he left behind. And since he returns to help the Avengers defeat Thanos in Endgame, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to do so. But according to Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn, there’s an understandable emotional reason why Star-Lord doesn’t remain on Earth after the dramatic battle.

During a Quarantine Watch Party hosted by ComicBook.com, James Gunn revealed new information about Guardians of the Galaxy, the future of certain characters and what it was like directing the film. Because Peter Quill barely even acknowledges that he’s back on Earth, one fan asked why the character didn’t even visit his grandfather’s grave after the Endgame fight. Gunn explained that Star-Lord hated returning to the planet and left as soon as possible since he associates it entirely to the death of his mother.
