Is ‘The Batman Part II’ in major trouble? James Gunn gives fans a long-awaited update on the highly-anticipated sequel set to film next year.
The internet has been blanketed in concern over the past few days for The Batman Part II. This new wave of anxiety stems from an announcement that Robert Pattinson will be reuniting with Christopher Nolan next year to star in his upcoming film. The reported window for this project sits around where the sequel expected to film, leaving many to worry that the project may have ended up cancelled by James Gunn.
Like most rumors making their way across the net, James Gunn was quick to correct fans about the status of The Batman Part II. The director posted on Threads that the sequel is very much not cancelled, and that fans should be wary to believe anything they read from some random person on the internet. He also revealed that he’s looking forward to receiving the script from Matt Reeves, calling himself one of the director’s biggest supporters.
“Like why would you even believe a rando on social networking?” Gunn remarked. “Of course not. If it was canceled it would be canceled. Who has time for charades? I’ve been one of Matt’s biggest cheerleaders for years – since Cloverfield and the Apes’ movies. We are eagerly awaiting his script.”
Is The Batman Part II In Trouble?
While James Gunn dispelled the rumor that The Batman Part II is cancelled, he did inadvertently confirm the claims of the original report that stated “nothing was close to being planned” for the sequel by confirming that Matt Reeves has not yet delivered the script for the project. Without a script, a studio is unable to begin any of the long pre-production work that it takes to make a blockbuster film to par with The Batman.
All signs point to The Batman Part II likely not filming until late into 2025 to allow adequate time for pre-production, meaning Robert Pattinson would likely be able to film the sequel alongside Christopher Nolan’s next film. However, that timeline is subject to change depending on when Matt Reeves delivers the script to James Gunn, meaning there’s no telling if the project could get delayed again or not.
