James Gunn Reveals Whether A ‘Superman: Legacy’ Trailer Will Premiere in 2024

Where's the trailer, James!?

James Gunn DC Studios Superman Legacy

Superman: Legacy is one of the most anticipated movies of next year. However, director James Gunn tempers fans not to expect a trailer for the DC Universe project anytime soon.

Fans have been begging for any scraps of Superman: Legacy news ever since James Gunn announced the project. While production on the freshman outing for the new DC Universe will be starting up soon, it seems details may be kept close to the chest, with Gunn revealing a trailer for the film won’t be debuting until next year:

“No,” James Gunn wrote on Threads when asked if a trailer for Superman: Legacy was coming in 2024. “We don’t begin filming until March. Writing is basically done and has been for a while, other than a comma here, a comma there.”

Of course, this doesn’t mean fans will be starved of DC Universe content this year. Even if the Superman: Legacy trailer won’t drop, James Gunn has confirmed Creature Commandos will be hitting Max later this year. It’s also likely fans will get their first look at David Corenswet’s costume sometime after filming begins. With content like this, fans can almost forget how bad of a year 2023 was for DC!

What to expect from Superman’s DC Universe debut

Superman: Legacy is a much-anticipated project, given that Clark Kent has been an integral part of the DC Universe for over 80 years, with various iterations and adaptations across different media. The movie promises to explore the character’s origins and his struggles to balance his dual identities as Clark and Superman while fighting off villains and saving the world. The choice to focus on the early years of his career is a bold move that could potentially breathe new life into the character and appeal to a younger generation of fans.

James Gunn and Peter Safran told journalists that their vision for the DC Universe includes locked scripts, wiggle room, and a unified storyline across film, television, animation, and video game projects. The two explained that the DC Universe could bring back elements from previous DC regimes, meaning that their eight-to-year plan is not a full reboot.

Superman: Legacy is currently scheduled to hit theaters on July 11, 2025. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the DC Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
