Will Viola Davis Return As Amanda Waller In James Gunn’s ‘Superman: Legacy’?

Will Waller Return?

Is Amanda Waller bringing the new DC Universe to task? James Gunn has broken his silence on the rumors that Viola Davis will reprise her Suicide Squad role in Superman: Legacy.

Ever since it was announced that Viola Davis would return as Amanda Waller in the new DC Universe, DC fans have been speculating where she’ll appear next. This speculation was fueled when Variety released an article suggesting she would appear in Superman: Legacy. Like many rumors, James Gunn was quick to shoot it down, stating that the actress won’t appear in his upcoming film.

Given Superman: Legacy is already set to introduce Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, it makes sense James Gunn wouldn’t want to use two characters known for their manipulation of others. This doesn’t mean Viola Davis won’t be returning soon, though. She’s still set to get her own series focused on Amanda Waller set in the new DC Universe, and she’ll likely at least make a cameo in Peacemaker season 2. Let’s just hope the next rumor about her return will be more fire than smoke!

What to expect from Superman’s DC Universe debut

Superman: Legacy is a much-anticipated project, given that Clark Kent has been an integral part of the DC Universe for over 80 years, with various iterations and adaptations across different media. The movie promises to explore the character’s origins and his struggles to balance his dual identities as Clark and Superman while fighting off villains and saving the world. The choice to focus on the early years of his career is a bold move that could potentially breathe new life into the character and appeal to a younger generation of fans.

James Gunn and Peter Safran told journalists that their vision for the DC Universe includes locked scripts, wiggle room, and a unified storyline across film, television, animation, and video game projects. The two explained that the DC Universe could bring back elements from previous DC regimes, meaning that their eight-to-year plan is not a full reboot.

Superman: Legacy is currently scheduled to hit theaters on July 11, 2025. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the DC Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
