James Gunn finally has the script for The Batman Part II! Does the director think that the sequel lives up to the years-long hype built for it?
The Batman Part II is an incredibly interesting movie. The sequel was confirmed to be in development almost as soon as the first movie hit cinema screens across the globe. However, despite a spin-off entering development, filming, and releasing after that point, there has been little word on the project actually filming. In fact, James Gunn, current co-chair of DC Studios, didn’t even have a script for the film for years.
This led many to worry that the project had been cancelled. While James Gunn soothed these fears by assuring that The Batman Part II was still on its way, it didn’t stop people’s anxieties from flaring up every few months with worries that the project was canned because a completed version of the script wasn’t in the studio’s hands.
James Gunn’s Thoughts On The Batman Part II
Luckily, the script for The Batman Part II was officially handed into James Gunn last week. Though, perhaps unluckily, this opened up a whole new can of worms for those online: is the script actually good? Despite being just over two years from actually seeing the film in theaters, fans are already throwing themselves in a tizzy over the film’s quality. Gunn himself provided some assurances when asked about the script by Deadline, simply saying “It’s great”.
Of course, James Gunn likely wouldn’t come out and bash the script even if it was bad. However, this clip does confirm that the producer seems to have finished reading The Batman Part II. Assuming that he doesn’t have an extensive list of notes, it’s likely that development on the sequel will start ramping up sooner rather than later, potentially eyeing to film in the fall.
