It’s not an exaggeration to say that the Flash is coming off a hot streak. The DC Universe’s fastest man alive has rose to superstar prominence over the past decade. Not only did they have their own ten season run on the CW with The Flash, but they’ve also been featured in dozens of video games and animated projects such as Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League and the animated Crisis On Infinite Earths Trilogy.
This not to mention The Flash feature film which, while it bombed at the box office, was treated as a tentpole project for Warner Bros. Discovery to the tune of getting a budget of over $200 million. This has left money wondering when James Gunn and Peter Safran plan to bring everyone’s favorite Scarlet Speedster back to the big screen in their new DC Universe reboot.
Is The Flash Getting A Movie In The DC Universe?
James Gunn recently responded to these ponderings about a potential Flash film in a comment on Threads. When speaking about the status of projects like Clayface, the director revealed that the studio is holding a beat on developing a film for the Flash for the DC Universe reboot, confirming that there are no current plans or a script being written that fans don’t know about.
“Because of the number one rule here at DC: No movie will be greenlit before the script is ready. And [Mike Flanagan]’s script was ready. (And as for the Flash we’re holding a beat on development).”
This may be disappointing to Flash fans who had been hoping for the Scarlet Speedster to get redeemed early on into the life of the new DC Universe. However, given how horribly The Flash stained the character’s reputation in the public eye, an update that proves that James Gunn is at least thinking about the prospect, even in spite of a lack of development, may be the best that could be hoped for.
