Could Crisis on Infinite Earths have hit the big screens? Arrowverse producer Marc Guggenheim reveals why the project skipped theaters.

Crisis on Infinite Earths was one of the most ambitious projects to ever hit the small screen. The event brought together heroes from across the Arrowverse for an event fans truly had to be there to believe. Yet, according to producer Marc Guggenheim, the project almost hit the silver screen, and was only stopped due to unfortunate circumstances.

“I don’t believe this is publicly known (again, statute of limitations) but we had been working with Warner Bros. to release all five hours of Crisis in movie theaters across the country,” Guggenheim explained on his blog. “The event – arranged through Fathom Events – was going to include special surprises like cast appearances and giveaways.”

“[And] we’d also cut together a few bonuses that would have been screened in-between episodes and, yes, they would have included the deleted scenes – with all the VFX completed, the sound mixed, and the picture color-timed – that I’d mentioned,” He continued “At this point, you’re probably wondering why this event didn’t go forward. Well, the answer is that it was scheduled for April 2020. Covid ruins everything.”

It’s a shame that such a historic event for the Arrowverse was shut down for factors outside of their control. However, Crisis on Infinite Earths still stands as a momentous achievement for Marc Guggenheim and the rest of his team. Let’s just hope the next attempt in theaters can even hold a candle to it!

The End Of The Arrowverse

After nearly a decade and a half, the Arrowverse is finally set to come to an end. Superman and Lois is the final show of the connected universe, one which was spawned from the success of Crisis on Infinite Earths. That series is now set to take its bow later this year, with production already wrapped on its final season.

However, even though the Arrowverse may end, the DC Universe is just beginning. After a tumultuous decade it seems the brand is finally back on track when it comes to big screen debuts. Given how rough those years were, it was events like Crisis on Infinite Earths that kept fans’ love alive in those trying times.
