James Gunn Says He Worked On Another DC Comics Property Before ‘The Suicide Squad’

James Gunn recently said that he did work on another DC Comics property before taking on The Suicide Squad.

It was a huge surprise to many when James Gunn was not only fired off Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but jumped over to DC to helm The Suicide Squad. However, Gunn will now return to Marvel Studios for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 once he is finished with his work on The Suicide Squad.

Before James Gunn signed on to write and direct The Suicide Squad, he was offered a wide variety of DC Comics characters to adapt, including Superman. Gunn has also shared that he has two other projects based off DC Comics characters that he would be interested in making. Recently, Gunn revealed on a recent Instagram Q&A that he actually worked on another DC Comics property before The Suicide Squad:

“There was only really one other IP I did any work on at all (just to see how it flowed for me personally). Other than that, it was just considering if any of them were right for me. TSS just flowed like nothing before for me.”

What DC Comics character do you think James Gunn worked on? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section below!

The first film followed a team of supervillains who were recruited by the government for a dangerous black ops mission in exchange for reduced sentences. The ensemble cast included Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn and Jared Leto as The Joker. However, James Gunn is expected to deliver on the fresh take on Task Force X in his upcoming movie.

Written and directed by James Gunn, the upcoming film stars David Dastmalchian, John Cena, Jai Courtney, Joaquín Cosío, Nathan Fillion, Joel Kinnaman, Mayling Ng, Flula Borg, Sean Gunn, Juan Diego Botto, Storm Reid, Pete Davidson, Taika Waititi, Alice Braga, Steve Agee, Tinashe Kajese, Daniela Melchior, Peter Capaldi, Julio Ruiz, Jennifer Holland, Viola Davis, Idris Elba, Margot Robbie, and Michael Rooker.

The Suicide Squad will be released in theaters on August 6, 2021.
