Armor Wars is an upcoming film starring Don Cheadle in his return as War Machine. According to a new rumor from Reddit, Armor Wars will also feature the return of James Spader as Ultron.

This information was revealed by the moderators of r/MarvelStudiosSpoilers, which is a forum dedicated to discussing leaks and rumors about the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The moderators claim that their sources revealed to them that Spader would return as Ultron in the upcoming Armor Wars film. This would be Spader’s first time reprising the role since Avengers: Age of Ultron in 2015, as Ultron was voiced by Ross Marquand in the What if…? series.

Don Cheadle was originally announced to return as War Machine for Armor Wars in December 2020. At this time, Armor Wars was being developed as a Disney Plus show alongside Wandavision and Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Not much was known about the series until September 2022 where it was revealed the show would be developed as a film instead due to it better suiting the story Marvel wished to tell. It’s possible that Spader’s inclusion as Ultron could be a factor in this change.

War Machine Takes Flight

An official press release from Marvel Studios following Disney’s D23 Expo has confirmed that Don Cheadle’s Rhodey will be donning some new suits as War Machine when Armor Wars arrives in theaters. According to the release: “Rhodey fans will see the character in a whole new light, and considering the title of the series, audiences can look forward to all-new suits for the hero, featuring different types of armor.

Throughout his time in the MCU, Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark created a vast array of Iron Man suits for himself. Rhodey has been seen in a few different variations of his War Machine armor as well, though it sounds like fans will get to see more takes on Rhodey’s crimefighting gear in Armor Wars.

It’s likely Don Cheadle’s Rhodey won’t be the only character suiting up either. The film’s official description teases Armor Wars will feature Tony Stark’s technology falling into the wrong hands, as in the comics that inspired the series, so fans should expect to see Rhodey going up against some armored adversaries.

There is currently no release date slated for the film. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the upcoming Armor Wars series, and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
