James Wan has shared a new look at the world of Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom following the announcement that the movie’s release has been pushed back to December 2023.
Both Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom and Shazam! Fury of the Gods were recently delayed by Warner Bros. Discovery. Shazam! has been pushed back to Aquaman‘s original March 2023 release date, while the Aquaman sequel is now slated for Christmas Day 2023.
While DC fans will have to wait a little longer to see the film, director James Wan has offered a look at the concept art behind Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom.
Enter The Lost Kingdom
The new concept images shared by James Wan on Instagram show new corners of DC’s subaquatic world, as will be explored in Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom.
Check out the images in the post below:
The director has promised “big, epic world-building” in the sequel to 2018’s Aquaman and this concept art certainly delivers exactly that. New creatures and landscapes, apparently both above and below the waves, are out in force here.
The images also tease an epic Atlantean battle and the return of Black Manta. Aquaman is seen facing off with Black Manta while wearing his gold suit from the first film, which is set to return alongside his new stealth suit.
While the decision to delay Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom reportedly came from above, James Wan sounds grateful for the extra time to perfect the film. While talking about that “epic world-building,” the director notes “I need the time to do it right.”
Here is the upcoming Aquaman sequel’s synopsis:
When an ancient power is unleashed, Aquaman must forge an uneasy alliance with an unlikely ally to protect Atlantis, and the world, from irreversible devastation.
Directed by James Wan, the upcoming sequel stars Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry, Amber Heard as Mera, Patrick Wilson as Orm/Ocean Master, Dolph Lundgren as Nereus, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Nicole Kidman as Atlanna, Temuera Morrison as Tom Curry, Randall Park as Dr. Stephen Shin, Vincent Regan as Atlan, Jani Zaho as Stingray, Indya Moore as Karshon, and Game of Thrones star Pilou Asbæk in an unknown role.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will hit theaters on March 17, 2023. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the upcoming DC film, and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
