Everything Everywhere All At Once star Jamie Lee Curtis seems to be looking for a feud with the team on fellow multiverse movie, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Everything Everywhere All At Once is the latest offering from A24, the studio behind The Green Knight and Denzel Washington’s The Tragedy of Macbeth. The film deals with the multiverse, casting Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings‘ Michelle Yeoh as Evelyn Wang, a Chinese-American immigrant and unlikely hero who taps into the lives of her alternate selves when threats emerge from multiple realities. Jamie Lee Curtis appears as Deirdre Beaubeirdra, an IRS employee auditing Evelyn’s family.
Meanwhile, Marvel Studios’ latest MCU installment, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, also sees its central characters contending with the multiverse. The film revolves around Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange encountering America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez), a girl who can traverse the multiverse, and the attempts of Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff to find an alternate reality where she can be with the children she conjured into being in WandaVision.
Jamie Lee Curtis recently posted an image comparing the posters for Everything Everywhere All At Once and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness on her Instagram page, captionining the post: “Is it JUST me? Does it seem STRANGE that our tiny movie that could and did and continues to do ##1movieinamerica and is TRULY MARVELOUS, out marvels any Marvel movie they put out there @everythingeverywheremovie has a Marvel movie coming out with a copycat poster? Is this one of those Internet feuds?”
While there has been no response from anyone working on the Marvel project as of yet – and, indeed, several commenters pointing out that the posters don’t really look that much alike – it’s fun to see Jamie Lee Curtis engaging in what appears to be good-spirited competition with the Marvel movie. The multiverse has clearly captured the cinematic consciousness as of late, with both A24’s art-house approach and Marvel’s multi-million dollar blockbuster telling stories of characters meeting other versions of themselves, offering a window onto the lives they might have lived or could be yet to live.
