Newly revealed concept art for Marvel’s Thor: Love and Thunder reveals Thor and Valkyrie reuniting with Jeff Goldblum’s Grandmaster on the “Moon of Shame” in a deleted scene.
It has previously been revealed that Jeff Goldblum, who first appeared as the Grandmaster in Thor: Ragnarok, had returned to the role for a cameo in Thor: Love and Thunder. Ultimately, however, Goldblum’s return was dropped from the final cut of the film.
Concept art released online has provided a look at what the Grandmaster’s role in Love and Thunder would have been, with this latest piece showing him meeting with Thor, Valkyrie, Jane Foster and Korg.
Jeff Goldblum’s Grandmaster On The Moon Of Shame
New images shared by concept artist Yujin Choo show interior scenes from the so-called Moon of Shame, featuring the Grandmaster and Thor: Love and Thunder‘s heroes gathered around a table.
Check out the artwork below:
The Moon of Shame appears to be another junk world, similar to Sakaar, the Grandmaster’s home in Thor: Ragnarok. It’s even possible it is a moon of Sakaar, perhaps a place of exile for the Grandmaster after his people rose up against him in Ragnarok.
Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie and Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster can all be seen attending Jeff Goldblum’s Grandmaster in the new images. Taika Waititi’s Korg can also be seen in one image, already reduced to nothing but a head, suggesting the Grandmaster’s scene was set after the heroes fought Zeus’ forces in Omnipotence City.
It is not clear from these images what the purpose of the heroes’ journey to visit the Grandmaster might have been. However, there will likely be many fans who would have liked to see Jeff Goldblum’s return in Thor: Love and Thunder and this at least offers an idea of what it might have looked like.
Here is the synopsis for Thor: Love and Thunder:
The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.
Directed by Taika Waititi and produced by Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum, the Thor sequel stars Chris Hemsworth, Christian Bale, Tessa Thompson, Jaimie Alexander, Taika Waititi, Russell Crowe, Natalie Portman, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper.
