Jeffrey Wright is taking the helm of creativity! The Jim Gordon actor reveals who he wants to be the villain in a future sequel for The Batman.
The internet has had a non-stop torrent of posts, rumors, and speculation about who the villain could be for The Batman sequel. Everyone from Mr. Freeze to Clayface have been tossed out as possibilities. And while The Penguin certainly puts its thumb on the scale about what storyline the film could adapt, the series has only further fueled discussion on the issue. Now it seems Jeffrey Wright is throwing his hat into the ring!
The actor recently sat down with The Movie Dweeb to talk about his upcoming project The Agency. When asked about who he think should be the villain in the upcoming sequel to The Batman, Jeffrey Wright revealed he had already done some comic book research, stating that he’d want Jim Gordon’s son to be take on the role of antagonist.
“There’s a lot to choose from. You know, Gordon actually has a son who becomes somewhat nefarious. That could be a possibility,” Wright explained. When asked who could play the character in the sequel, he remarked “Oh I have some ideas. Maybe one idea.”
Who Is James Gordon Jr. In The Batman Comics?
For those unaware, in the comics Jim Gordon actually has a son named James Gordon Jr. He’s not the direct sibling of his more well-known child Barbara Gordon, having been conceived during Jim’s first marriage. The child was shown to be disturbed from a young age, killing animals and seemingly showing no remorse for other people, eventually growing to be a serial killer and recurring antagonist to Barbara as Batgirl.
James Gordon Jr. has deep ties to the Falcones due to Jim Gordon being the target of the crime families during his childhood, and actually appears in several comics tied to Batman: Year One. So even if Jeffrey Wright isn’t right in Jr. playing the main villain in The Batman sequel, it’s more likely than not the character will be referenced in one way or another.
