Supernatural star Jensen Ackles has joined the third season of Amazon’s The Boys.
While many fans are eagerly waiting for The Boys season two to arrive on Amazon Prime, showrunner Eric Kripke is already planning ahead for the third season after it was recently given the greenlight. Variety revealed that Supernatural star Jensen Ackles is joining the third season as a fascinating part of the mythology in The Boys. Kripke launched Supernatural starring Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki back in 2005, and joked in a statement that he’s aiming to give the actor “gainful employment.”
The statement also revealed Jensen Ackles will play Soldier Boy, the very first superhero developed in World War II and quickly became an American icon in the timeline of The Boys. Obviously the hero is a parody of Captain America, but in the comics by Garth Ennis he’s useless with military tactics. There’s every chance his role will be as violent and depraved as the other heroes we’ve seen so far. The Supernatural star posted a brilliant video to confirm his new role in The Boys season three. It shows the actor wondering what to do when the long-running series ends, before someone off-camera throws him the ninth volume of The Boys.
“When I was a child, I had a crazy, impossible dream — to provide Jensen Ackles with gainful employment. I’m happy to say that dream has come true. Jensen is an amazing actor, an even better person, smells like warm chocolate chip cookies, and I consider him a brother. As Soldier Boy, the very first superhero, he’ll bring so much humor, pathos, and danger to the role. I can’t wait to be on set with him again, and bring a bit of ‘Supernatural’ to ‘The Boys.’”
