Was Jeremy Allen White too harsh with how he treated superhero movies? The Bear star reveals his regrets for his comments about a meeting with Marvel Studios.
Jeremy Allen White is one of the hottest stars in Hollywood right now. As such, it’s not a shock that he’s landing roles in major blockbusters like The Mandalorian and Grogu. However, Star Wars isn’t the first major franchise the actor almost starred in. Famously, White had a meeting with Marvel Studios that went wrong, with him asking why he should do the unknown movie and there being a crash out between him and whoever he was talking to.
Now two years out from that story, it seems Jeremy Allen White regrets the way that he handled that meeting. When speaking on his experience talking to Marvel Studios on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the actor explained that his response stemmed from not ultimately being picked for the role, and that he thinks he could’ve handled the situation differently.
“That was out of line. That was, again, me sort of not being entirely invited to the party, and being, like, ‘I don’t even wanna go anyway.’ But yes, I had a meeting that I probably could have handled differently, for sure.”
How Marvel Studios’ Place In Hollywood Changed
Jeremy Allen White goes on to remark that his question about “Why he should be in the film” didn’t stem from a hatred of the superhero genre, but rather uncertainty of how he fits into it. The actor also remarks that the landscape around Marvel Studios has changed a lot, and that some of the benefits of working for them have fallen to the wayside.
“First of all, it’s not a bag on the genre, as much as it is, like, I don’t know what I can give to it, really, or how I fit into it. And also, I think there was a period where being in one of those films guaranteed you [could] get any movie made.”
“And if you find a script on the street and you take that around to people, and you love it, you can get it made, and I just don’t know if that’s how it’s working anymore.”
Jeremy Allen White, similar to contemporaries like Timothee Chalamet, is certainly more of an “actor’s actor”- caring more about the quality of the films he’s making than paydays. It makes sense that a large appeal of working for someone like Marvel Studios would be to help get those high quality projects funded. Though with his upcoming role in The Mandalorian and Grogu, it’s possible White is getting closer to the world of spandex everyday.
The Mandalorian and Grogu is set to land in theaters May 22, 2026. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the Star Wars universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
