Despite not launching with any new DC content, HBO Max is getting up to speed to compete with Disney Plus’ recent launch of their shows part of the sprawling Marvel Cinematic Universe. One of the first projects announced was a live-action Green Lantern series. For a while, news on the show was minimal, but now that production is inching closer, casting news is starting to hit. We first learned that Finn Wittrock will play Guy Gardner, now Deadline reports Jeremy Irvine is in negotiations to play the first Green Lantern, Alan Scott.

Alan Scott actor Jeremy Irvine is best known for his roles in Steven Spielberg’s War Horse, Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again!, and Treadstone. The upcoming Green Lantern series will take place in different time periods. Alan Scott’s story will start in 1941 and follow him as a secretly gay man in the FBI while Guy Gardner’s origin will occur decades later in 1984. It’s unclear if both Lanterns will team up in the series at all, or if their storylines will remain separate.

In addition to the Green Lantern series, HBO Max is also developing a Strange Adventures DC anthology series, a DC Super Hero High show from Elizabeth Banks, James Gunn’s Peacekeeper spin-off, and Matt Reeves’ Gotham PD series set in the world of The Batman. News of the Green Lantern series arrived shortly after reports of HBO Max planning to produce DC projects with budgets on par with those of feature films.
