Is Hawkeye finally set to return for season 2? Jeremy Renner has officially confirmed conversations with Marvel to bring the series back.
Marvel hasn’t exactly had the best track record of continuing their Disney Plus shows. While some projects, like WandaVision, were conceived as a truly limited series, others left the door open for more stories to be told. Many of those stories fans are fine with being left on the cutting room floor. However, one show that fans are shocked hasn’t made a return for season 2 is Hawkeye.
Though, unlike other Disney Plus projects, this series had some major difficulties that kept it from continuing. The show’s star, Jeremy Renner, had a life-threatening accident on a snowplow some years back that left his movement severely restrained. And, following his recovery, rumors began to circulate that Marvel wanted to lower his pay for Hawkeye season 2.
Due to the confidential nature of these talks, the exact reasoning for why is unclear, with some reports stating it was due to his injuries and others citing Marvel’s general hopes to bump Jeremy Renner’s co-star Hailee Steinfeld into the lead role.
Is Hawkeye Getting A Season 2?
After months of news drying up, it seems as though some fresh information is starting to trickle out about a potential season 2 of Hawkeye. During a recent appearance at Florida Supercon (via Popverse), Jeremy Renner confirmed that there have been talks about the series making a return, but the timing just hasn’t been right due to the condition of Renner’s body following the accident.
“I always wanted to do more of that stuff, and there’s the incident that happened. And I have to get my body in shape to be able to sling arrows again and dive around and do all that stuff, but I’ll get there. I’m doing good. I’ll always dance with Marvel. I’ll always dance with them for sure when appropriate, when it’s rocking.”
“I’m happy to do season two of Hawkeye. I love that character. I think there’s so much for us to do. We waded through many discussions about the shape of that season. It’s getting my body right and getting everything right for that. The timing of that will come, and if there’s still a need, want, and desire for it, then yeah.”
Even though talks seem to be going well, it’s likely that Hawkeye won’t make a return for season 2 for some time. Once a series that big enters development, it’ll likely be a year for writing and pre-production, and then a year for filming until its release (assuming Marvel is at their A-game). Though, hopefully, it won’t be too long until fans see Jeremy Renner back in the purple tights.
