Avengers: Endgame star Jeremy Renner is the latest Marvel actor to react to the shocking news that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man could be leaving the MCU over Disney and Marvel Studios’ dispute with Sony Pictures.
Reports emerged yesterday that Disney and Sony Pictures failed to reach an agreement for a new deal on future Spider-Man films featuring Tom Holland’s version of the web-slinger. Initially, it was said that Disney wanted a 50/50 co-financing stake on future Spider-Man projects moving forward but Sony rejected this and attempted to extend the original deal which gives Marvel 5% of first-dollar gross. The studio was said to have exited negotiations with Disney, ousting Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige as the lead producer of future Spider-Man films. But an official statement from Sony put the blame for this on Disney, citing Kevin Feige’s many responsibilities including Disney Plus’ upcoming Marvel series for his limited involvement going forward. A representative from Sony also believes the dispute between the studio and Disney is simply over a producer credit and that negotiations for Spider-Man’s future in the MCU are still ongoing.
Nevertheless, the world was shocked to learn Tom Holland and his version of Spider-Man could be leaving the MCU. Not only did fans take to the internet to share their reactions, but Marvel actors including Hawkeye actor Jeremy Renner did as well. In his post, Jeremy Renner called out Sony directly and politely asked the studio to return Tom Holland’s Spider-Man to both Stan Lee and Marvel Studios. You can check out Jeremy Renner’s post below.
