Warner Bros. will release Joker: Folie à Deux, starring Joaquin Phoenix, on October 4, 2024.

Following Joker‘s billion-dollar success story, it was inevitable that Warner Bros. would pursue a sequel. In June, director Todd Phillips finally confirmed the long-rumored sequel by revealing the title, Joker: Folie à Deux.

The term folie à deux refers to the idea of shared madness, which alludes to the inclusion of Harley Quinn. Lady Gaga is in talks to play the iconic DC character, and the sequel will reportedly be a musical. Joaquin Phoenix’s portrayal of Arthur Fleck earned him his first Oscar, and he is expected to return for the sequel with a massive salary.

Arthur Fleck Will Return

In the wake of Warner Bros. canceling Batgirl, it has been revealed that Joker: Folie à Deux is safe and will hit theaters on October 4, 2024, exactly five years apart from when the first film was released. Principal photography is said to begin in December. According to TheWrap, the Joker sequel will take place within the walls of Arkham Asylum, which was featured briefly in the first film. Deadline first reported the news.

Here is the official synopsis for Joker:

Director Todd Phillips’ “Joker” centers around the iconic arch nemesis and is an original, standalone fictional story not seen before on the big screen. Phillips’ exploration of Arthur Fleck, who is indelibly portrayed by Joaquin Phoenix, is of a man struggling to find his way in Gotham’s fractured society. A clown-for-hire by day, he aspires to be a stand-up comic at night…but finds the joke always seems to be on him. Caught in a cyclical existence between apathy and cruelty, Arthur makes one bad decision that brings about a chain reaction of escalating events in this gritty character study.

Directed by Todd Phillips from a script he co-wrote with Scott Silver, Joker stars Joaquin Phoenix, Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Bill Camp, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Glenn Fleshler, Douglas Hodge, Marc Maron, Josh Pais, and Shea Whigham.

Joker is available on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital, while Folie à Deux will hit theaters on October 4, 2024. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the sequel, and subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content!
