Lady Gaga In Early Talks To Play Harley Quinn In ‘Joker’ Sequel

The sequel is said to be a musical!

Lady Gaga Joker Harley Quinn

Lady Gaga is in talks to play Harley Quinn in the Joker sequel starring Joaquin Phoenix.

It has been known that Todd Phillips was developing a sequel to Joker. Last week, Phillips finally confirmed the sequel and revealed the working title as Folie à deux. The definition of folie à deux led many to speculate that the sequel would introduce a new Harley Quinn, especially after early rumors revealed as much. The Hollywood Reporter has now shared that Lady Gaga is in talks to join Joaquin Phoenix in the Joker sequel as its universe’s version of Harley Quinn.

A Clown Is Born

Lady Gaga made her acting debut in American Horror Story: Hotel before earning an Academy Award nomination for A Star Is Born, which Todd Phillips produced. The first Joker film was inspired by Martin Scorsese titles such as King of Comedy and Taxi Driver. According to the report, the Joker sequel will be taking advantage of Lady Gaga’s vocal talents and be a musical.

Lady Gaga would also become the second actress to play Harley Quinn in live-action after Margot Robbie played the beloved character with animated origins in Suicide Squad, Birds of Prey, and James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad.

Here is the official synopsis for Joker:

Director Todd Phillips’ “Joker” centers around the iconic arch nemesis and is an original, standalone fictional story not seen before on the big screen. Phillips’ exploration of Arthur Fleck, who is indelibly portrayed by Joaquin Phoenix, is of a man struggling to find his way in Gotham’s fractured society. A clown-for-hire by day, he aspires to be a stand-up comic at night…but finds the joke always seems to be on him. Caught in a cyclical existence between apathy and cruelty, Arthur makes one bad decision that brings about a chain reaction of escalating events in this gritty character study.

Directed by Todd Phillips from a script he co-wrote with Scott Silver, Joker stars Joaquin Phoenix, Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Bill Camp, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Glenn Fleshler, Douglas Hodge, Marc Maron, Josh Pais, and Shea Whigham.

Joker is available on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the planned Joker sequel with Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn, and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
