Christopher Nolan’s Tenet is one of the most highly anticipated releases of the year, and with each new look, fans are wondering one thing. The question that’s on everyone’s mind is if Tenet is a sequel to Nolan’s Inception? Well it appears that Tenet star John David Washington has an answer.
During an interview with Esquire, Washington answered a few questions on Tenet fan theories and he had a really vague response about the film being a sequel to Inception. You can check out what Washington had to say below:
I’d say [Tenet] is an in-law to Inception. They’re related by marriage. They get together for Thanksgivings, family barbecues, like that kind of thing. Other than that, one lives in Europe, the other one lives in Compton.

Here’s the official synopsis for Tenet:
“John David Washington is the new Protagonist in Christopher Nolan’s original sci-fi action spectacle “Tenet.” Armed with only one word—Tenet—and fighting for the survival of the entire world, the Protagonist journeys through a twilight world of international espionage on a mission that will unfold in something beyond real time. Not time travel. Inversion.”
Written and directed by Christopher Nolan, Tenet stars John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Dimple Kapadia, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Clémence Poésy, Michael Caine, Kenneth Branagh, and Himesh Patel. Christopher Nolan also serves as a producer alongside his wife Emma Thomas, with Thomas Hayslip on board as an executive producer.
