John Wick director Chad Stahelski has revealed that he would like to direct Mahershala Ali’s upcoming Blade film for Marvel Studios.

Last year one of San Diego Comic Con’s biggest surprises was the reveal that Marvel Studios had a Blade reboot in the works with Luke Cage star Mahershala Ali set to play the titular hero. While the film has confirmed not to be part of Marvel’s Phase 4 several directors have already expressed interest in leading the upcoming Marvel project. This has included Deadpool 2 and uncredited John Wick co-director director David Leitch. Now this list includes the John Wick franchise’s main director, Chad Stahelski.

While speaking to Comicbook.com the subject of Marvel films was brought up with the John Wick director. He revealed that, overall, he wasn’t a big superhero fan but loved the various films and would like to have the opportunity to take a shot Mahershala Ali’s upcoming Blade film:

“As far as doing my own, I’m not a gigantic superhero guy, but I enjoy the movies. I love the Avengers. I loved Captain America. I like James Gunn’s take on Guardians. I really dig him as a director and what he’s done with that. Ragnarok, I felt was really funny. I thought that was clever. I’ve come around.

If the opportunity ever came, I would like to take a stab at…the one that really jumps out to me would be like Blade. If they were going to redo Blade or something like that, just because I feel that one, for some reason, the vampire martial art action vibe. That would be a cool one to stretch and try and reinvent.”

Chad Stahelski’s next film in the franchise, John Wick 4, is currently scheduled to be released on May 27, 2022. Full details on Mahershala Ali’s Blade are currently unknown, though Kevin Feige confirmed the reboot will be part of Marvel Studios’ Phase 5. The project is said to have come about after Mahershala Ali called Marvel expressing his interest in Blade following his Academy Award win for his performance in Green Book.
