Jon Bernthal Breaks Silence On Returning As The Punisher In ‘Daredevil: Born Again’

Jon Bernthal promises justice!

Jon Bernthal The Punisher Daredevil

Jon Bernthal is to return as Frank Castle AKA The Punisher in Daredevil: Born Again. While speaking about his role, Bernthal emphasized the importance of doing the Punisher “right” in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Many fans were hesitant when it was announced that Jon Bernthal would officially be joining the MCU. The Punisher was one of the darkest comic shows on the market when it aired on Netflix, and there was no guarantee Frank Castle would maintain his edge on Disney Plus. While Bernthal played coy about his role in Daredevil: Born Again, he assured fans any return would be done right.

“I think there’s a reason why that character has resonated as deeply and strongly as he has,” Bernthal explained during a recent interview with Collider. “In the hearts and minds of comic book fans and first responders and people in the military and people all over the globe. I think there’s a little bit of Frank Castle in everybody. He exists very strongly inside me and I care about that character deeply.”

“I also know that it’s absolutely essential that if we do it, we do it right and we have real sacred integrity to the source material and to what is at the core of Frank,” He continued. “I’m gonna do my absolute best to make sure that, if and when we do it, we do it right.”

It’s certainly a relief to hear how much Jon Bernthal cares about doing the Punisher justice in Daredevil: Born Again, even if he danced around confirming his appearance in the MCU. It’s not clear if Frank Castle will be getting his own Disney Plus series following Bernthal’s return to the role, but at the very least what fans will get of the character will be of the utmost quality.

What to expect from the new Daredevil series

Marvel Studios recently scrapped the entire creative team for Daredevil: Born Again due to internal criticism. The previous incarnation of the show focused mainly on the legal aspects of Matt Murdock, with the hero not suiting up until episode 4. The series is expected to go through a complete creative rework to focus more on action and violence, just like the Netflix version.

Little is known of Daredevil: Born Again, with plot details being kept under wraps. Jon Bernthal’s Punisher, Sandrine Holt, Margarita Levieva, Michael Gandolfini, Nikki M. James, and Michael Gaston are set to appear in the series opposite Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock and Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk, a.k.a Kingpin.

Daredevil: Born Again currently has no release date for Disney Plus. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
