Jonathan Majors’ time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe may not be over yet. The Kang the Conqueror actor reveals his desire to return to his breakout villain role.
Jonathan Majors is currently in the midst of his comeback tour to help promote his film Magazine Dreams, which has only recently been released following delays associated with his controversial fall from grace back in 2023. For those that don’t recall, Majors was arrested on accounts included but not limited to assault and strangulation against his partner, with the actor later being dropped by his management and losing the role of Kang the Conqueror in the MCU.
And given that Marvel is currently gearing up to film Avengers: Doomsday, the film that has taken the place of Avengers: Kang Dynasty in the MCU, a lot of questions have been sent Jonathan Majors’ way regarding if he’d be open to taking up the mantle of Kang the Conqueror once more. While the actor admits he doesn’t know his future, he does reveal that he’d love to take another swing at the character if he got the chance.
“Yeah, I mean, you play the hand you’re dealt. It’s not over until it’s over. Man, here’s the thing about Marvel. You don’t know until you know,” Majors explained to The Breakfast Club podcast. “I will say this, though: of all the characters I’ve played, Kang carries a certain novelty and challenge for an actor that I would I love to play again. When I hear people talking about it…as long as the streets are talking, as long as the fans are talking, there’s hope.”
“When I was invited to the Marvel Universe to play, of all characters, Kang, I loved it. I miss it. I want to do it again. The role is incredible and is unique from any other role I’ve played because of the lexicon of characters that he gets to play. I absolutely want to do it again and, if there’s a way, I’d love to do it again. That’s in the hands of the Disney corporation.”
Will Jonathan Majors Return To The MCU?
Despite being found guilty on his charges, there has been a groundswell of support for Jonathan Majors to return as Kang the Conqueror. While he wouldn’t be headlining the MCU’s biggest event in history anymore, the character’s story could be explored in smaller venues, especially when it comes to addressing the multiverse and TVA after the current saga is over. This is especially true when it comes to the Council of Kangs, who exist in a rather odd limbo in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
However, all signs point to a return being less likely than some fans might hope. A TMZ report from earlier this year revealed that Marvel, allegedly, has no plans to bring Jonathan Majors back to the MCU at this time. This doesn’t mean that Kang the Conqueror is done, of course, as there are reports of the studio looking to recast the villain. However, if that does come true, Majors’ chances of making a return likely jump from slim to none.
