Does the MCU already have its new Kang? Colman Domingo reveals the truth about the rumor he’d replace Jonathan Majors as Marvel’s next big villain.

Fans have been begging for Colman Domingo to join the MCU for years. And while the actor has finally made his debut as Norman Osborn in Marvel’s Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, that didn’t stop fans from wanting more. This led to them clinging on to any rumor they could about the actor making the jump to live-action, with perhaps the most prevalent of these revolving around him replacing Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror.

Colman Domingo actually addressed this rumor last year in a profile with Vanity Fair. While the actor didn’t explicitly deny that he was in consideration by Marvel to replace Jonathan Majors, he did reveal that his team hadn’t brought him any information about potentially taking on the role of Kang the Conqueror in the MCU. While this managed to subdue many fans, some still believed his cagey answer may have meant more than he was letting on.

Colman Domingo Speaks On Kang Rumors

This rumor came to the forefront once more in a recent talk that Colman Domingo had with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. During the chat, Domingo revealed that he actually did speak to Marvel about the rumor that he was being considered to replaced Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror. However, ultimately, he wants whatever role he plays in the MCU to be something entirely original to him.

“After a while, when it was constantly in the press and on places like Twitter, I was like ‘Wait a minute, is this true? Am I being talked about for Kang?’. So I literally called up my team and said ‘Are you guys having conversations that I don’t know anything about’ and they were like ‘No. I don’t know.’ And then I was like ‘Are you guys being cagey or what?’ And they weren’t. I don’t think so.”

“But I think there had been conversations of me coming into Marvel in some way. And we did follow up with a sit down meeting with the heads of Marvel. So I did do that. And we talked openly about the landscape of Marvel or even like the Kang rumors. And I personally knew that, like, listen. I’m just all about energy and I just want to do things that make sense and brings gentle energy.”

“But I feel like want a role to be mine, whatever that role is, whatever I develop… Something didn’t feel right of me like ‘Oh, would I replace someone?’ No, I wanna build something from the ground up that’s my own. So I feel like that was never a conversation from my point of view.”

These comments seem to suggest that, even if the rumor of Marvel wanting Colman Domingo to replace Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror is true, the actor has no interest in taking on the mantle. And given how well he is playing Norman Osborn in the animated sphere, it’s clear that the start as a talent for bringing iconic characters into the MCU in a new light.
