Josh Gad Thinks Danny DeVito Should Play Phil In Disney’s ‘Hercules’ Remake

Josh Gad Danny DeVito Disney Hercules Philoctetes

Josh Gad thinks Danny DeVito should reprise his role as Phil in Disney’s upcoming live-action remake of Hercules.

Last week, news broke that Disney is developing a live-action Hercules remake with Avengers directors Joe and Anthony Russo on board as producers. The Hercules remake will also be penned by Shang-Chi writer Dave Callaham. The news of a live-action Hercules remake automatically sparked fan-casting on the internet. One name that has been floated around for Philoctetes, or Phil, has been Josh Gad.

However, Josh Gad responded to the fan-casting on Twitter and said that he believes Danny DeVito would be a much better choice for Phil. DeVito is no stranger no Disney’s live-action remakes, having starred in Tim Burton’s Dumbo. Of course, DeVito also voiced Phil in the 1997 Hercules animated film. DeVito joining the upcoming remake would not be unheard of either with James Earl Jones reprising his role as Mufasa for Jon Favreau’s The Lion King.

Here is the official synopsis for Disney’s next live-action remake, Mulan:

It is an epic journey that will transform her into an honored warrior and earn her the respect of a grateful nation…and a proud father.
