‘Justice League Dark’ Series Still In Development At HBO Max

The supernatural heroes will still make their debut on the streaming service.

HBO Max is still developing its Justice League Dark series, starring the DC heroes with supernatural abilities.

Although many fans were surprised to hear the news that director J.J. Abrams is developing a series based on Justice League Dark for HBO Max, there’s been no word since the initial reports about the status of the series or which characters it might focus on. With Swamp Thing airing on The CW, many wondered if the character might return on the network or join the Justice League Dark HBO Max series after the (brilliant) solo series was cancelled by DC Universe.

When asked if pre-existing characters like Swamp Thing will be included in the show, Matt Webb Mitovich from TVLine confirmed that the series is still being worked on at HBO Max, saying “Yes, I am assured that JLD is still in development at the streamer.” Unfortunately no other details were revealed about the project, but hopefully it follows the direction of the concept art created for the planned Justice League Dark film that famed horror director Guillermo Del Toro was working on.

What do you want to see from the HBO Max series? Should it bring back Derek Mears’ Swamp Thing? Sound-off in the comments below!

Details regarding the Justice League Dark series are being kept under lock and key. J.J. Abrams and Bad Robot’s Head of Television Ben Stephenson are on board as executive producers, with the company’s Executive Vice President of Television, Rachel Rusch Rich, serving as an executive producer.

Warner Bros. has been trying to get a Justice League Dark movie off the ground for quite some time now. Guillermo del Toro and Doug Liman were previously attached to the project, but they both dropped out a few years ago. Additionally, the JLD character Swamp Thing had his own DC Universe series that was axed in June 2019 after just one season.

The Justice League Dark team was created by comic book writer Peter Milligan and artist Mikel Janín. The team made its debut in September 2011, consisting of characters like John Constantine, Madame Xanadu, Deadman, Shade, Zatanna and the Changing Man.
