Who could Karen Gillan play?

Is Karen Gillan coming to the DC Universe? The Marvel actress speaks on her potential role in James Gunn’s biggest project to date.

Ever since it was announced that James Gunn would be the co-creator of a brand new DC Universe, all eyes immediately shot to the Guardians of the Galaxy cast. Fans assumed they were shoe-ins for a role, especially given Gunn’s tendency to cast his friends. When asked about the possibility, Nebula actress Karen Gillan admitted she was just waiting on the call.

“James Gunn is one of my favorite people on the planet, let alone filmmakers, so I would love to work with him again,” Gillan told Collider in a recent interview. “Of course, I would, and I would do it at the drop of a hat. I also feel like I shouldn’t pigeonhole myself by trying to cast myself in a character. I think he knows better. So, if it ever happens, I feel like he’s gonna choose the right character for me.”

This is an interesting change of tone from Karen Gillan, especially given her prior interest in playing Poison Ivy in the DC Universe. Could it be that she changed her mind? Or maybe James Gunn has already cast her in a role? Either way, it’s certain fans would love to see the Guardians of the Galaxy actress cast in any role given how well she played Nebula.

Karen Gillan Hypes Up James Gunn

It seems James Gunn isn’t just good at making up superhero stories. When talking about a potential role in the DC Universe, Karen Gillan expressed how much she loved working with the director on Guardians of the Galaxy, and how free it feels to be on one of his sets.

“I’ve learned so much from him. He’s an extraordinary director. He’s actually such a natural leader. He’s gonna keep you on track when you try these big swings. He also really embraces those swings, and embraces improv, and thinks of improv and feeds it to you in the moment over a microphone. I love working like that because it gets me out of my head.”

“And then, his shots are all incredible. He’s got that balance of it looking really cool, but also being really actor-focused. Sometimes it’s one or the other, but he’s got both, which is really, really exciting.  And as a person, he’s just such a lovely guy that loves his friends and family so deeply, and he has a really close-knit community, and everyone loves him so much, that you’re like, ‘Oh, that’s the sign of a really good person because everyone loves him.'”

So often when fans hear behind-the-scenes information about directors, it’s for the worse. It’s a massive relief to once again hear that James Gunn is, by all accounts, a relatively decent person. Hopefully, he’s able to bring all of that love (and Karen Gillan) over to the DC Universe once it hits the big screen!
